Time: 6:30-8:30PM
Speakers: Tom Coughlin, President, Coughlin Associates

Description:
Digital storage and memory are crucial elements in modern consumer electronics, whether in a consumer device or used for on-line cloud services. With the advent of faster wireless networks and IoT applications, storage will grow at device endpoints, at the edge and in data centers. The trade-off of performance versus cost will continue to favor the use of many different types of storage in a hierarchy. There are new types of persistent memory that could replace today’s volatile memory and dramatically impact consumer devices and the services that support them and perhaps even upset tomorrow’s storage hierarchy. Moving to non-volatile memory in consumer products enables lower power consumption and more power saving states, extending battery life. This talk will explore important developments in digital storage and memory that will enable consumer services from devices, to the edge and the data center.

6:30 pm – 7:00 pm: Registration, Food, Networking
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Talk
8:00 pm – 8:30 pm: Q&A and Networking

Description:
Protecting digital assets is becoming harder and harder, for one alarming reason: most organizations have poorly prepared for the deluge of cloud-based applications and end-point devices. This transformation has created vulnerabilities well beyond any corporate-controlled environment, expanding the potential for data breaches into completely unchartered territory.

As the enterprise perimeter dissolves, cybersecurity today must extend beyond simply protecting on-premises data. Anyone authorized to have access to data and applications should have the flexibility of using any device, on any network, from any location. This ever-increasing desire for seamless access has created a corresponding need for end-to-end security across a myriad of applications, data centers, and devices. The cost of failing to do so is potentially huge. According to a recent study sponsored by IBM, the average cost of a single data breach is over $3 million.

Originally conceived by Forrester, the “zero-trust” model has been gaining momentum, from Google’s BeyondCorp to Gartner’s Continuous Adaptive Risk and Trust Assessment (CARTA). If implemented properly, zero-trust has the power to transform the industry.

-What are the implications of default-deny?
-Will micro-segmentation and software-defined perimeters offer enough protection?
-Is zero-trust security destined to become mainstream?

Description:
Next generation cable infrastructure, e.g. full-duplex DOCSIS, requires broadband RF amplifiers with high output power and good linearity.

It is difficult to meet the requirement even with GaN devices. Digital predistortion (DPD) has been proposed as a potential solution.

However, DPD for cable access is quite different from the DPD technique commonly used in wireless base stations. There are interesting issues, such as the Giga Hertz bandwidth and the BER performance.
